This ship has been given Hegemony markings. Systems modifications are otherwise superficial.

This ship has been heavily modified - and poorly maintained - by its pirate crew.

–In-Game Description

The Wolf-class frigate is a highly mobile hull capable of delivering large amounts of damage. Its various versions are fielded by Tri-Tachyon, the Hegemony, and the Pirates.

Notes[]

Utilizing a competent officer, heavy blaster or mining blaster, it can be highly dangerous. But its small shield profile and low durability makes it extremely fragile and easily disposed under improper circumstances. It's highly endangered by concentrated firepower, capable of instantly overloading its shields. The Wolf is highly vulnerable to point-defense like light dual machine guns or heavy machine gun, so when engaging enemies armed with those like the Lasher or the Enforcer, be careful not to approach them to melee distance.

The most effective missiles when armed with low flux efficiency weapons are sabots, these are capable of overloading shields relatively quickly, and allowing the high punch weapon to pierce armor and cabal enemies. A wolf may also be armed with other effective payloads like reaper torpedoes, these synergize with its ability to position capably and roam the battlefield.

When assigning an officer to a Wolf, be especially keen on getting missile specialization and energy weapon mastery, elite energy weapon mastery will allow the Wolf to fire further with its large but not large enough flux package.

In terms of mods, a Wolf can be equipped with resistant flux conduits to decrease its vulnerability to fighters such as the Claw or Thunder, and Salamanders which upon contact can disable the wolf's engines rendering it defenseless against enemies without its mobility. It can also be equipped with Auxiliary Thrusters to increase its ability to aim its frontal weapon and maneuver. Integrated Point Defense AI to increase its ability to fight against missiles and fighters whilst flanking and being cut off from its core fleet forces.

The Wolf finds itself useful in slow moving fleets of cheap low-tech ships that can distract the main force by creating a cohesive and stable front line, it can flank and maneuver for the kill around the battlefield, eliminating opposing flankers or causing ships to lose mobility by using an Ion Cannon. If focused it might find it difficult to do anything, and may eventually run out of peak operating time without achieving anything at all.

The Wolf provides a highly mobile ship with subpar weapons in an affordable package. The Phase Skimmer is key to using the Wolf effectively; an extremely versatile system, the Skimmer can be used to evade weapons fire, setup a better attack angle, or just move around the map. Thanks to the Skimmer - and the Wolf's otherwise fragile hull - the ship works best in a "hit and run" role against small and large targets alike. The ship's ability allows it not only aggressive movement potential, but also to escape from a sticky situation at a moment's notice should the player overextend. It is also a fast enough ship to catch up to most targets and still packs a punch in combat, making it a good ship for early-game bounty hunting.

The Wolf is fast enough that its phase skimmer system can be used to "joust" against targets. This involves approaching the target at high speed, locking it in as primary target and activating the phase skimmer just before colliding. This will cause the Wolf to teleport forward based on its momentum which can carry it to the other side of the target. If a target is locked in, post-teleport position will face the target. Highly effective against small or thin target profiles, particularly front shielded targets.
