The Trident is a high-tech bomber whose guided torpedoes are highly effective against both small and large ships. Compared to the similar Dagger-class bomber, it has an extra torpedo per attack run and is slightly survivable, but has a slower top speed and slightly slower turnaround time. The Atropos-class torpedoes have excellent range and are typically launched from outside the effective range of standard point-defense systems, so the only danger to the bombers is stray shots and enemy fighters.
The "demanding logistical profile" is the key difference--the Trident requires an extra 7 OP to mount compared to the Dagger. Based on all of these characteristics, the Dagger is best used on dedicated carriers that will be launching large waves of bombers from longer ranges. The Trident meanwhile shines on combat carriers that will be in the thick of the fighting, like the Legion-class. The Tridents will frequently fire off their torpedoes the moment they leave the hanger, negating its slow top speed entirely.
