A remora ghost harassing the player
Sensor ghosts are anomalous sensor readings encountered in hyperspace. Although they generate the same sensor pings as actual unidentified fleets, approaching closely reveals the absence of a material object if it's of such a type- which most often is the case. Many or most are decorative and do not have a direct gameplay interaction with the player, but a few do.
Ghost types[]
Abyssal Drifter[]
Appears in abyssal hyperspace as a sensor contact of varying size, remaining still or moving in a random direction.
Charger[]
Imitates a medium to large fleet charging at the player with Emergency Burn, complete with sound.
Echo[]
A ghost that maintains its position relative to the player fleet no matter how fast it goes to try to catch up with it. These can be quickly discerned as fake readings due to this unwavering and constant pattern of movement paired with the lack of any further profile resolution.
Encounter Trickster[]
Turns out to be a fleet that may choose to attack the player. Pirate fleets may spawn when a pirate base is nearby, and Luddic Path fleets when a Pather base is nearby. Bases of either kind may also attract mercenary fleets.
Guide[]
Tries to lead the player fleet towards a system of interest (one with entities that show up strongly on the Neutrino Detector).
Leviathan[]
A massive ghost traveling at a tangent to the Sector core. May have a 'calf' ghost and one or more remora ghosts orbiting it. Leaves a short-lived slipstream in its wake.
Minnow[]
A swarm of 5-15 small ghosts that dart around a location while maintaining their distance from the player fleet, then scatter from the player.
Racer[]
One or more ghosts that appear when the player is in a slipstream and appear to also be riding the stream. Tend to move in a straight line rather than following the slipstream's actual course.
[REDACTED][]
Resolves as a dormant, badly damaged [REDACTED] fleet (each ship with 5 D-mods). Interacting with it reveals that its transponder codes are "over a hundred cycles out of date".
Remora[]
Rapidly circles the player fleet and regularly emits interdiction pulses that temporarily reduce the player fleet's speed. Using the Interdiction Pulse will drive it off, though it will eventually depart on its own volition anyway. It's possible but rare for multiple Remoras to harass the player simultaneously. Activating/deactivating the Reverse Polarity ability will cause it to reverse it's orbit of the player fleet.
Ship[]
Reveals itself as a derelict ship. Interacting with it will cause the bridge officers to comment on how it was moving a while ago.
Stormcaller[]
A huge ghost that appears in deep hyperspace and triggers hyperspace storms around it.
Storm Trickster[]
A ghost, posing as a Guide, leads the player astray. Once followed, it disappears at the heart of a storm, activating it in a manner akin to the Stormcaller ghost, thereby damaging the player.
[VERY REDACTED][]
Only appears when the player fleet includes the [VERY REDACTED] ship. Features motes.
