This dumb-fire rocket was ubiquitous in the Sector pre-Collapse due to civilian applications discovered by asteroid miners. The go-to strike weapon of the desperately under-equipped, the Hammer is most often employed by poor independent militias, Pirates, and especially the Luddic Path. This has led to the mildly blasphemous alternative name for the weapon, "Ludd's Hammer".
The Hammer Barrage mount provides a stirring example of the expediency of quantity.

Compared to the Cyclone Reaper Launcher, the other large torpedo option, the Hammer Barrage:
Costs 10 less OP
Has considerably lower per-hit damage, but has a much shorter delay between volleys
Runs out of ammo quicker, due to the larger burst and higher rate of fire
Has some spread; this may help it hit smaller targets or "clip" larger ones in what otherwise would be a miss. On the other hand, the spread means less damage on large targets compared to two Reaper torpedoes hitting the same spot
